Use case evaluation and impact assessment
Use case evaluation and impact assessment

Descripition

This impact assessment service is designed to help projects or organisations understand the potential impact of their programs, policies, or initiatives on the individuals, communities, or the environment they wish to serve. The group of experts from Oak Digital Consulting conducts a thorough analysis of the project, program, or policy and its potential impact. The analysis includes relevant data review, interviews with stakeholders and experts, and a thorough literature review. From this analysis, potential positive and negative impacts will be identified and recommendations for addressing any negative impacts will be provided.

Unintended consequences are also identified and recommendations for mitigating them are made. The service culminates in a comprehensive report that includes the findings, recommendations, and any necessary data visualisation tools to help communicate the results to all stakeholders. This report can be used to inform decision-making and measure the success of the initiative. Overall, this impact assessment service provides the information and insights organisations need to make informed decisions and maximise the positive impact of their initiatives.

Process

Define the scope of the assessment: This step includes identifying the project, program, or policy being evaluated, as well as the specific populations, communities, or environments that are affected.
Identify stakeholders: This comprises of identifying all of the individuals, groups, and organisations that will be impacted by the project, program, or policy, as well as those that have a vested interest in its outcome. A profile is written for each group of stakeholders.
Data collection: The data collection step contains gathering relevant data from a variety of sources, such as interviews, surveys, and literature reviews, to better understand the potential impact of the project, program, or policy.
Impact analysis: The group from Oak Digital Consulting evaluates the data collected in order to identify potential positive and negative impacts, as well as potential unintended consequences. These impacts are set on a framework with different categories and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Recommendations: Based on the analysis, recommendations are made on how to address any negative impacts and mitigate any unintended consequences.
Reporting: A comprehensive report is prepared that includes the findings, recommendations and visualisation tools if needed, which can be used to inform decision-making and measure the success of the initiative.
Monitoring and follow-up: The implementation of the recommendations and the results of the project, program or policy are monitored, evaluated and reported to stakeholders. In some cases, a business information system (BI) is delivered to help you track and monitor the impacts.

Benefits

Identifying potential negative impacts: An impact assessment can help organisations identify potential negative impacts of their initiatives or projects, such as environmental damage, displacement of communities, or unintended consequences that could harm vulnerable populations.
Identifying potential positive impacts: An impact assessment can also identify potential positive impacts of initiatives, such as increased economic development, improved public health, or environmental protection.
Informing decision-making: An impact assessment can provide organisations with the information they need to make informed decisions about their initiatives, such as whether to proceed with a project, how to modify it to minimise negative impacts, or how to maximise positive impacts.
Improving accountability and transparency: An impact assessment can increase transparency and accountability by providing stakeholders with information about the potential impacts of a project, program or policy.
Compliance with regulations: Impact assessments may be required by law, for example for European Union projects, for obtaining permits or for compliance with environmental regulations
Improving reputation: By conducting impact assessments and taking steps to minimise negative impacts and maximise positive impacts, organisations can improve their reputation with stakeholders, including governments, communities, and the general public.
